We are so proud of designer Stephanie Gensamer & her mother (a breast cancer survivor!), who participated in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure! in October 2013. What exactly does this event entail? You've always heard about it, but may not know what an amazing thing it really is! It is a 60 mile, 3-day walk that is a fundraiser for breast cancer research. While the reason is serious, it is also a bold celebration of life.
Stephanie was a first-time participant but has always been an advocate of breast cancer awareness and research. She began preparing weeks in advance, even walking home from the office in Buckhead to her house in Sandy Springs to prepare for the 60 mile haul. Stephanie also began fundraising months in advance, and even surpassed her fundraising goal of $2,000.00. As stated on the3day.org, seventy-five percent of the net proceeds raised by the Susan G. Komen 3-Day® help support Susan G. Komen®'s Research and Training Grant Program and large public health outreach programs for women and men facing breast cancer. The remaining 25 percent helps fund local community and affiliate support and outreach programs. The event began on a Friday with an opening ceremony and the participants walked 20 miles each day for three days, ending with a closing ceremony on Sunday. At the end of each day, the participants headed back to camp for dinner in the dining tent, hot showers, evening entertainment and sleeping in tents on the floor. Stephanie and her mom made lots of new friends, shared stories and found strength in each other when at their lowest points. Her co-workers at Sims Patrick Studio are extremely proud of her and so inspired!
