Patterns and finishes derived from traditional Native folklore, artwork and community traditions and landscape inspired the interior design of this mall located in Albuquerque. Improvements and modern updates were made to all spaces including the Foodcourt. These renovations included upgrades to furnishings, floors, columns, demising partitions, ceilings and lighting throughout. Using a combination of large scale porcelain tile in common mall areas accents new custom terrazzo floor patterns inset in the courts. These neutral floors were accented with earth tones of burnt orange and turquoise medallions outlined in black. The hot air balloon seen at their annual festival and Native American pottery patterns were utilized to develop the medallions. Other more neutral tile patterns weave through the mall creating interesting textures and contrast to support the features. Custom mall furniture and high tech amenities were designed for comfort and convenience throughout. The ceiling was simplified and raised in certain areas to create more open spaces which improves sight lines for the tenants and allows more natural light to enter the center. New column enclosures were added and a backdrop of bright neutrals was used for columns and ceilings. The result is a refreshing new community center for Coronado Mall.
