My biggest philanthropic passion is finding a cure for ALS. My brother, Bill, died from this horrific disease in 2009 and I promised him that I would do my part to help raise awareness and money for a cure. I was the Chairman in 2008 and have been on the Executive Committee for the MDA Night of Hope Gala for seven years. Our efforts have raised over $3 million for ALS research. Sims Patrick Studio is a sponsor for this event. I chair our Sims Family Foundation for ALS Research, which has donated over $300,000 to ALS research projects with ALSA and Emory and MDA. In addition, as a childhood cancer survivor and as an ADPi at Auburn (Ronald McDonald is the ADPi national charity), Ronald McDonald Charities has always been a passion for me personally as well. It has been an honor to have the chance for Sims Patrick to design two Ronald McDonald houses. I donate my personal time to those projects, as well as volunteer in different capacities. We also do pro-bono work each year. Past recipients have been the Bridge Family Center for abused teens and the Center for Puppetry Arts.
Everyone in our office is involved in tons of philanthropic organizations from CURE Childhood Cancer events to helping the homeless. Sims Patrick sponsors a DFACs family every Christmas, volunteers for Zaban Homeless Center, Safe House Outreach, and many others.
